Small Cottage Kitchen Styling: Open Shelving

Small Cottage Kitchen Styling: Open Shelving

Hey friend... Krystle Marie here! It's been a while since I've made a new blog post & I promised I would be creating a series of blog posts talking all about how I style our small, cottage-style home. Our home is a little under 1,500 sq ft. It's been a labor of love for 8 years. It has taken us 8 years to get to where we are at in our home & we aren't even done yet. I always talk about how important it is to love your home... as it is today. It is easy to get caught up in the Pinterest world & Instagram world when it comes to decorators & decorating your home. But if I had to pick only one tip to share... it will always be to love your home, as it is today. There will always be "another project"- be proud & enjoy the coziness your home currently brings.

Now... onto how I style our small kitchen. When I say it's small...trust me, it is. And the kitchen is one of my favorite places to spend time so it's always important to me to make sure not only is it styled & decorated but that it is functional. What is a space if it's just decorated & not functional? To me, it's a bit of a waste. We all LIVE in our homes & use this space daily...so functionality is a must!

We don't have much cabinet space & adding cabinets or doing a complete kitchen renovation & redesign just isn't something that is in our budget right now or something that we want to do. It's important to prioritize your renovations & upgrades for your home & for us... right now we would rather create our ultimate cozy backyard oasis. More on that to come this week too!

If you're lacking cabinet space- open shelving is the way to go! Garrett built these shelves about two years ago & we have loved them ever since. We moved all of our plates, bowls & soup mugs to these shelves. Along with a bit of our drinkware. And just by doing this, we opened up two cabinets! WOW- instantly adds a significant amount of space.

The open shelving is also a lot of fun to style throughout the seasons, it is still decorated but also still 100% functional which is a huge WIN in my book!

I'll be sharing lots more about how I decorate our small kitchen space & our smaller home- so stay tuned to the blog & my Instagram (here: krystlemarienickels) so you can follow my small home decorating blog series.

Happy decorating sweet friend, talk to you soon!
